The Art of a Handwritten Note

I don’t know about you, but I really love receiving handwritten notes. Texting and emailing and social media has made it so easy to connect with people – which is awesome – but I also think it has allowed us to lose sight of the magic in something handwritten. There is something special and personal about them, and it takes more time and consideration.

When I worked at camp (particularly the summer I met my now-husband), we didn’t have our cell phones on us very often, and there wasn’t always great reception. So we wrote each other letters and notes during “rest hour” every day! I looked forward to those notes and it was so fun. I still have every single one of those notes and I’ll keep them forever!

I still have all the handmade cards my friends and family have made for me throughout the years that included a sweet sentiment, a funny note, or inside joke. I have cards that have my grandparent’s handwriting and I treasure those. I also have several letters from my best friends in high school and college; it’s hilarious to go back and read them now.

I currently use a subscription that sends me cute cards every month and it makes sending these little notes super easy. My very favorite subscription for cards and extra goodies is RAD MAIL! If you subscribe to my newsletters, you’ve already had a sneak peak of Rad Mail, but I thought it needed a little more attention. It’s the BEST! Also, If you haven’t heard of Tara from Rad&Happy, go check her out. She’s the best. (And she has other fun things, too!)

Anyone could use this subscription. As much as I love handwritten notes and cards, I’m also terrible with physically sending cards and getting things in the mail. But, this makes it incredibly easy as I always have something on hand. Everything that comes with it every month is SO cute, useful, and also funny. I want to send everyone I know one of these cards, because I know how much I would love to receive one! Who wouldn’t love a handwritten, heart-felt note, honestly. Especially as a surprise! Each month gives you something for any occasion- birthday, wedding, anniversary, thank you, just saying hi, whatever.

There are so many cute card sets out there, too. Do you ever find yourself buying a bunch of adorable notecards but then don’t actually use them? Go ahead and actually use them! A special occasion is not necessary. And you can even make your own. I always have these blank cards on hand, as well as these colorful ones. I put a cute sticker in the bottom right corner, and you have yourself a cute card that took zero effort.

Hand-written letters, notes, and cards is not a lost art! I really do think people appreciate it. It does take a tiny bit more effort, but that’s kind of the point. It’s fun, personal, and more meaningful, knowing it takes more effort. Send someone a little note. Pass a note like in the “old days.” Leave an encouraging note on someone’s desk. It’s an easy way to brighten someone’s day, and we can always use a bit more cheer and positivity in our lives!
