‘Tis the season for cheesy and predictable Christmas movies (you know the ones!). I think it’s safe to say you either love them or hate them. While on maternity leave with Milo last Christmas, I had the time to watch a TON. Some of them were cringe worthy, but others made it back to my 2020 watch list.
I decided to make a list to keep track of which ones I’ve watched (and you know all the titles are so similar LOL). I’ve rated them on a scale of 1-5 (5 being the “best” and one that I would watch again, NOT necessarily because of its top-notch cinematography).
Disclaimer: I don’t think there are any 1’s so far. I love sappy movies and I’m not super critical of them. If it’s REALLY bad, I tend to stop watching and switch to something more enjoyable. I even had a little input to make sure I wasn’t just rating everything a 4 or 5. I hope you’ve enjoyed a few of these, too!
The Princess Switch: 5 out of 5
I thought this was such a cute one! Good characters and a fun story. Of course it’s cheesy and the accents are hilarious, but I loved it. I happily watched it again this year. (Netflix)
The Princess Switched Again: 4
Still a cute storyline, but I didn’t love the new characters as much. I’d still probably watch it again, but I like the first one more. (Netflix)
Naughty or Nice: 2
I felt like this plot escalated so quickly and made it extra-unbelievable. Not the worst, but I think you could skip this one. (Hulu)
Christmas with A View: 5
I watched this one last year and will definitely watch again! I love the characters and the story, plus it totally made me weepy. So sweet. (But also, it’s based on a Harlequin novel. Don’t judge. LOL). (Netflix)
Noelle: 5
I don’t even think this would totally qualify as a “super cheesy” Christmas movie. I LOVED it, and would probably watch every year! I would have paid money to see this in theaters and still loved it. The cast is awesome, it’s a sweet story, and it warms my heart and makes me tear up every time! (Disney+)
Klaus: 4
This one doesn’t FEEL very Christmas-y until the end, but it’s such a great background story twist of Santa, and a great one for kids! (Netflix)
Inn Love By Christmas: 2
It wasn’t a terrible story, but the bad acting was really distracting. It was predictable and unrealistic, but not in a good way. (Hulu)
Snowed Inn Christmas: 5
This one surprised me! And if you’re a One Tree Hill fan, I think you’d love it for sure. I felt the magic of Christmas watching this one! (Lifetime, Hulu)
A Christmas Prince (and the sequels): 4
This one now has two sequels and honestly, I enjoyed them all. The characters are so endearing! I’ve watched the first one a few times. (Netflix)
Holiday in the Wild: 3
I actually did like this one, and I cried a little, but it wasn’t really Christmas-y at all. I enjoyed it, but dropped a star for that. Great for animal lovers, though! (Netflix)
Operation Christmas Drop: 4
I really enjoyed this one, too! A sweet story and the acting was good. And I do love a good tropical Christmas backdrop! (Netflix)
A Welcome Home Christmas: 5
I’m probably rating this higher than I should, but I cried like a baby and it was so sweet and happy. It was my perfect kind of cheesy and predictable Christmas movie. (Lifetime)
A California Christmas: 4
The title had me! Haha. While it wasn’t very Christmas-y, I loved it! It feels like a story I’ve seen before, but the chemistry is great- the leading actors are married in real life, and she wrote and produced it all herself! I thoroughly enjoyed it. (Netflix)
Second Chance Christmas: 2
I have mixed feelings on this one. It’s sweet and there are good intentions, but it felt a little off for me. (Hulu)
Falling For Christmas: 3
Okay I actually really liked this one too, but I wish there was more skating? I think that would have made it a little more magical. I know that wasn’t totally the point, but that would have boosted it for me. It is cute, though! (Amazon Prime)
The Mistle-Tones: 4
This is another feel-good Christmas movie! Really cheesy, but also a sweet story line, and I love any movie with singing and performances! (Freeform, Hulu)
You are My Home: 4
This one doesn’t have all the Christmas vibes, but I loved the story. It is both heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time. (Netflix)
Holidate: 3
It isn’t really Christmas-y, so it lost a star, but I still enjoyed it. It was really fun and the actors had great chemistry. It felt more like a regular rom-com than a “classically cheesy Christmas movie.” Note: this one is NOT kid friendly. (Netflix)
Same Time, Next Christmas: 4
Cute story, fun tropical Christmas setting, good characters. (ABC, Hulu)
12 Dates of Christmas: 5
It’s a sweet story and has all the great Christmas movie vibes! I think I’ve seen this several times and it’s still a fun one! (Hulu)
I’ll keep adding to this, so tell me some of your favorites! Which movies should I watch next?
